South Street Green Festival, Sun., Sept. 3, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 900 block of South St., 386-290-8749
Let's assume for a moment that you're not among the 6 percent of Philadelphians who recycle their trash. What if you got paid to save Mother Earth?
Local organizers at Sunday's South Street Green Festival hope to educate community members on how a little green elbow grease can translate into big savings for homeowners and businesses.
"The idea is that we can help people save money and the environment," says JJ Biel-Goebel, co-founder of the Urban Green Partnership, which is looking for 3,000 signatures to support the Recycle Now campaign.
Biel-Goebel hopes that the festivalwhich started as a small block party for collecting signatureswill "help people start to see the world a bit differently."
Bands, face painting, organic food and exhibits from the Big Art Show will follow. It's not too late to hand over your Hancock and reverse those nasty habits.
