Don't Make Us Pop A Cap(sule) In Yo' Ass

Published: Sep 28, 2006

After listening to City Paper founder and editor emeritus Bruce Schimmel tell dubious stories about what Philly was like in 1981 (you really expect us to believe CP had a gardening column, Bruce? And people read it?), we have decided to perform a public service. We have designed a time capsule to be opened 25 years from now, hopefully by some CP staffer who's currently in diapers, that will help shed light on what Philly was about in 2006, and what signs of change we could detect already. We were thinking we would bury it in the floor of a casino.

To Be Capsulized:

  • 1 (one) CasiNO sign
  • 1 (one) Stop Snitchin' T-shirt
  • 1 (one) Mothers in Charge T-shirt
  • A binder containing the National Geographic Traveler Philadelphia story, the New York Times "Sixth Borough" story and the Philly Mag "Philly Is Cool" cover
  • 1 (one) brochure for Brewerytown Square
  • 1 (one) Ryan Howard rookie card
  • 1 (one) SEPTA map
  • 1 (one) photo of the skyline
  • Doctored photos of the skyline that include proposed developments
  • 1 (one) ashtray from the Khyber
  • 1 (one) "My Philadelphia Includes Culture" bumper sticker
  • Pictures from the 2006 Wing Bowl
