Dear Fleisher: 4 X 6 Inches of Art

Published: Oct 11, 2006

It's no secret: Sometimes the most effective art comes not from freedom but from limitation. The 300-plus artists who created postcard-size works for "Dear Fleisher: 4x6 Inches of Art" get plenty of mileage from their tiny canvases. The nearly 600 works, part of the Fleisher's second biennial invitational exhibition, celebrate how dear the 108-year-old institution is to the art community — while serving as a fundraiser for its art access and education programs. Each piece is signed on the back and on sale for $50. The artists' identities are only revealed after purchase, letting exhibition-goers appreciate the art, not the famous (or unknown) name.

Sun., Oct. 15, 4-7 p.m. (preview Sat., Oct. 14, 6—8 p.m.), $5 suggested donation, Fleisher Art Memorial, 719
