It's been a quick climb for former Philly schoolteacher/Tin Angel bartender Amos Lee these past few years. Granted, it didn't hurt to have someone like Norah Jones handpick him to open her 2004 world tour. But Lee had to prove himself every night to her devoted fans, and pick up his own in the process something he managed with the same sort of unassuming charm he's always used on audiences here. With his just-released sophomore CD, Supply and Demand (Blue Note), the 29-year-old troubadour (who's touring with a four-member band) is garnering fine reviews for his introspective folk-pop with outward-looking elements of gospel and soul. Opening for everyone from John Prine to Bob Dylan over the past year has given Lee a strong shot of confidence, which comes through unfailingly on the new record, whether bemoaning a betrayal ("Careless") or preaching about the woes of the world ("Freedom").
