"We want to expose the truth about the whole diamond industry being based on exploitation and oppression and brutal conditions for African people," says Hoehne. "This is about raising consciousness that it's not just about the so-called 'conflict diamonds,' because DeBeers manufactured the whole question of conflict diamonds to continue to control the monopoly on the diamond industry. The conflict diamonds were being used to fund wars, but we're saying the whole condition must be overturned ... I think it's really significant that people come out and support those demands, here and in Africa."
