You've probably caught Joe Rogan hamming it up on Fear Factor or providing keen commentary for the UFC. What you may not realize, however, is Rogan's also a standup comic, and he's about to hit Philly for the first time since the 1990s.
Rogan's got love for the East Coast: Born in Jersey and raised in Boston, he believes the people of this fair coastline are tougher than the wishy-washy Angelinos he lives among nowadays. With this in mind, we decided to find out exactly what, in Rogan's eyes, makes Philly a real man's city.
Why Philadelphia's testosterone levels are so high:
Philly is manly because of its boxing heritage. I mean, you guys have Bernard Hopkins, probably one of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing.
Best manly movie set in the city:
Of course Rocky. I can't wait to see [Rocky Balboa]. That is going to be awesome. He's like 60 and he's playing a boxer.
Why the East Coast will always be more real than the West:
People are so much more proud to live there. There's something that the weather does to people that makes them aggressive. Philly [is real] because people are there living their life. People in L.A. are always trying to do something [else].
Why Philadelphia audiences are true audiences:
They are less tolerant of crap, and they are quicker to boo something if it sucks. But they are also quicker to applaud if it's really good.
