"Mexico and Central America: Day of the Dead"
Sun., Nov. 5, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m., donations accepted, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, 215-763-8100, www.philamuseum.org
Celebrated in Mexico, Central America and parts of South America, the brightly colored traditions of the Aztec-rooted El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) stand in stark contrast to the black garb Americans typically associate with buying the farm.
This Sunday, the Philadelphia Museum of Art puts its own spin on the vibrant celebration of life and death by focusing on the art. Visitors can help construct an altar honoring Latin American artists, listen to live folk music from Sones de Mexico and watch artisans make sawdust rugs and giant papier-mâché skulls. Don't worry if you're short on cash: The postmortem party coincides with Pay-What-You-Wish Sunday.
Have a little fun before you die, will ya?
