Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show

Published: Nov 1, 2006

Thu.-Sun., Nov 2-5, times vary by day, $5-$20, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, 215-684-7930, www.pmacraftshow.org

Adored by few, reviled by many: elementary school arts and crafts time. The kids who loved it loved it. The rest of us couldn't wait to get out on the kickball field.

Now it's time to get all nostalgic: The PMA's craft show is a four-day event that brings together 195 of the finest artists in the world. Culled from 1,400 applicants, the chosen few will display products ranging from ceramic pots and precious stone jewelry to hand-sewn leather goods. The show will also feature demos to walk onlookers through processes like metal forming and basket weaving.

This year, 26 guest artists from Finland will also be in attendance, showcasing work inspired by their Nordic landscape. All the art is for sale, and the proceeds go toward helping the museum expand its permanent collection.
