hip-hop

: Michael T. Regan

The hip-hop scene in Philly is overdosed with artists and producers (but jonesing for fans, perhaps?). So, it's a good thing that the Beats and Rhymes' monthly event has stepped up to handle the swelling population of beat makers wanting to be heard. Like its long-running sister event, Beat Society, this night will feature four producers in a live showcase flexing skills from flipping a sample to playing a handmade signature remix. The second installment, this Saturday, will include producers Cimor Amor, Fel Sweetenberg, Mic Paradise, and DJ Skipmode (pictured left), while the MCs up to bat are Elixir and the Mighty Flipside, Esq. (pictured right). It's a four-hour nonstop serving of complete ear submersion. Only true beat heads need apply.

Sat., Nov. 18, 9 p.m., $8, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888, www.thekhyber.com.
