Annual Gingerbread House Competition
Runs Nov. 17-Jan 3

Each year, Peddler's Village features sweet sculptors competing for the title of the top gingerbread constructor in Lahaska. Competitive categories include the assembly of authentic houses and replicas of noteworthy buildings (White House, Eiffel Tower, etc.), obscure 3-D masterpieces (last year saw Smurfs and the Virgin Mary) and kiddie architecture. Native American Thanksgiving

Give thanks the Native American way at White Dog Café chef Andrew Brown's annual Native American Thanksgiving Dinner. Choose three of seven dishes from Brown's menu, including roasted pumpkin and winter squash soup, flame-roasted honey- and chili-glazed duck breast, braised venison and smoked Alaskan king salmon. Fall Winemaker's Dinner

Celebrate Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board chairman Jonathan H. Newman's latest love (France's Chateau Mont Redon L'Aire du Rossignol Rose) while watching Chaddsford Winery's Eric and Lee Miller challenge him to a blind taste test of Bordeaux. The evening also features a three-course meal including shrimp and cilantro purses, grilled chicken with Boston bibb lettuce salad, and herb-crusted veal tenderloin with Grand Marnier. Pennsylvania Food and Beverage Show

The Pennsylvania Food and Beverage Show features two days of food enthusiasts, sommeliers, celebrity chefs, restaurateurs, party planners, caterers and more. Join Betty Groff, Andrew Little, Tim Beckenbaugh and the Food Network's Frederic Van Coppernolle for cooking demonstrations and seasonal treats, including Thanksgiving hors d'oeuvres and Dutch country pork with apple stuffing. For dessert, try sauteed pears with walnuts or crepes suzettes. Merchants will also peddle baklava, sparkling cider, homemade horseradish, maple doughnuts, dog treats and more. Un-Thanksgiving Film Showing and Potluck Dinner
Thu., Nov. 16, 7 p.m., $5-$15

West Philly's Uhuru Solidarity Movement is hosting an event honoring the historic suffering of indigenous Americans. "So many go through the holidays not even acknowledging the genocide that took place here," says member Deidre Martin, who is hosting an Un-Thanksgiving potluck/reminder. The dinner includes roasted vegetables, turkey and fresh-mulled cider. Diners will also hear presentations by guest speakers and watch a screening of Incident at Oglala: The Leonard Peltier Story, a recap of the FBI's 1975 assault on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
