Azuka Theatre's 'Twas the Night was a crowd-pleaser when it premiered last Christmastime. But there's a special reason to welcome the frantic comedy back this season to remember playwright Veronica Griego. She died in a car crash April 8 at age 43. After a career as stage manager at local theaters she was named associate producer at the Prince and developed its successful production of Dreamgirls. At the same time, she became Azuka's general manager and started writing an independent film. "We're reviving this because it's what Veronica wanted to do," says Azuka artistic director Kevin Glaccum. "Her goal was to make it an annual event. She had the most amazing energy and made life more fun." Griego's fiance, Buck Shirner, stars in the revival along with most of the original cast. The two were together five years. Shirner says he loved her because she was very smart and full of ideas. "Last week I saw Tony Bennett on TV sing 'The Shadow of Your Smile' and a wave of emotion came over me because Veronica had such a great smile."
