Heart Show
Mike Supermodel, former owner of a national wholesale T-shirt company, was never comfortable playing salesman. Convincing potential buyers that his T-shirts were seriously rad was messing with his head. After he decided he'd had enough, he started over with a local retail shop named Jinxed Clothing. And he treats his new business right by hosting art show after art show. "That is what keeps us fresh and keeps us different," says Supermodel. "Our shows are open to anyone. We turn most things down because most things suck, but we're open to anything."
Tomorrow night's opening of "Heart Show," only a week after "Tattoo Show," will feature more than 50 artists. "I'm goin' nuts roundin' everybody up now ... this is definitely the biggest show we've done, as far as volume goes," says Supermodel, who usually hosts two or three artists at a time. Each of the artists featured in "Heart" received a wooden heart in the mail; they were then instructed to paint or otherwise alter their wooden heart into art and send it back to Jinxed before the show begins. The show is cash and carry, meaning you show up with cash and you can carry away a piece of art. Supermodel set a price cap at $100 to keep everything affordable.
Opening reception Fri., Feb. 9, 7-10 p.m., free, exhibit runs through Feb. 22, Jinxed Clothing, 620 S. Fourth St., 215-978-JINX, www.jinxedclothing.com
