Back in the golden era of hip-hop, the DJ was just as vital as the emcee. That's where DJ Scratch is coming from. Ever since his victory at the World Supremacy DJ Championship in 1988, he's been hailed as one of the best to ever touch a record. Besides flexing his blending skills backing up EPMD, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, Scratch gets in it on the production tip, having penned hits for notables LL Cool J and 50 Cent. Name-dropping aside, Scratch is respected across the hip-hop realm as someone who continues to represent turntablism as an art form. He'll step into the 215 Friday alongside homegirl DJ Ultraviolet, who'll also be taking a turn on the ones and twos. Expect to hear some classic Scratch cuts, as well as the sounds that have kept him at the top of the game for over 20 years.
Fri., Feb. 23, 10 p.m., $5$8, with DJ Scratch, DJ Ultraviolet, Fluid, 613 S. Fourth St., 215-629-0565.
