"Horseshoe Crabs and Migrating Shorebirds" lecture

Ruth Pfeffer, expert birder and trip leader

Sun., March 25, 2 p.m., $22-$24

Morris Arboretum, 100 Northwestern Ave., 215-247-5777

"Shorebirds travel all the way from Argentina and are dependent on horseshoe crab eggs for survival," explains Pfeffer. "They time their arrival to the Delaware Bay perfectly with the eggs. This happens every single year, and it's a feeding frenzy. It is a true phenomenon. Eighty-eight percent of this horseshoe crab species lives in the Delaware Bay. It's not the prettiest creature, but it's beautiful."
