After bouncing back and forth to Boston for a while, trombonist Daniel Blacksberg settled back in his native Philly last year and has since imported a host of impressive friends. Most exciting to date is this trio show led by Joe Morris, one of those longtime innovators who fly just under the radar, largely because they can't be bothered to do the same thing long enough to become identified by it. He's been compared to Ornette Coleman accurate, if only because both consistently maintain a core musicality even when you're not sure exactly what it is you're hearing. Morris somehow manages to channel a breathlike flow via pick and strings, sounding just slightly unlike a saxophone in the way that only a guitar can't. They'll be joined by the brilliant cellist Daniel Levin, who played his first local gig this month with Matana Roberts but is suddenly making a flurry of welcome trips back.
