RJD2's latest disc, The Third Hand (Beggars Group/XL), is the beginning of the DJ's self-proclaimed quest for legendary pop songwriter/producer status. The CP cover boy has shifted focus from pure turntablism by adding live instrumentation. This tour he's playing keys and guitar with a backing band, but no need to fret. He's still rocks a four-table setup and the grooves are smooth, resonating with their deep hip-hop roots.

Portuguese singer Lura wanted to be a dancer, and only got into singing through the back door, so her stuff all has a pulse to it. Even a soft, lullaby-sounding number like "Bida Mariadu" on her new M'Bem di Fora (Four Quarters) CD builds in complexity, the more so when your find out the song concerns a mother singing encouragement to a grown son who has left home looking for a better life. Other songs will please samba fans and give Lura a chance to show her gift for dance.
Wed., April 11, 7:30 p.m., $31-$44, Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999, www.kimmelcenter.org.

This weeklong music festival is all about putting Philly music in the spotlight and the spotlight keeps moving all over town. It all kicks off on Monday with Make A Rising, The Asteroid No. 4, Pattern is Movement and The Cobbs at Johnny Brenda's. The marquee matchup is Friday the 13th's Starlight Ballroom show with Dr. Dog, The Spinto Band, Bardo Pond and Illinois. But there's a great show pretty much every night of the festival. Look to The Clog (www.citypaper.net/clog) for nightly (maybe even hourly) reports from our roving reporter Maria Tessa Sciarrino. Now go get popped.
Mon.-Sun., April 9-15, most shows $10, various venues, www.poppedphiladelphia.com.
