This Mother's Day weekend, what better way to honor the dear woman than with the gift of music? You can really go for baroque with multiple 18th-century music concerts, featuring master of masters J.S. Bach. Philomel starts things off Friday with a concert featuring Bach's stirring Orchestral Suite No. 2, with celebrated baroque flutist Sandra Miller as the guest soloist. The expanded ensemble will also play Telemann's Musique de Table. The next evening, bring Mom to the Tempesta di Mare concert of Bach organ trios, at beautiful St. Mark's Church. This music is smaller in scale than the orchestral suites, written for various combinations of recorder, violins, viola, cello, lute and harpsichord, but remarkably varied in emotional and dramatic impact. So skip the long lines for Sunday brunch and feast on music for a change. And stand up straight. And comb your hair. And would it kill you to pick up the phone and say hello sometime?
