The saying "often imitated, never duplicated" may be a cliche, but it accurately describes the theatrical dance troupe MOMIX. Best noted for wily illusion paired with acrobatic physicality, the group is one of today's most entertaining movement acts. This is a cheeky, sneaky lot — you can wrack your brain trying to discern how they pulled off a particular illusion built from human bodies, but it's just as well to simply sit back and enjoy the ingenuity of the wondrous shapes they make. Much of the company rep offers humor by way of wacky scenarios and broad use of oversize props. But make no mistake, this is serious dance that's physically challenging and requires extreme dexterity.

Longtime fans can likely point to a favorite show — perhaps Baseball, a comedic homage to the titular sport; or Opus Cactus, a surreal ode to the American Southwest. Or maybe it's a single selection that sticks in the mind, such as Discman, with its memorable giant puppet gone amok. There are plenty of highlights, and a fair bit of the creme de la creme can be seen during MOMIX's appearance at the Annenberg Center, where the company celebrates its 25th anniversary with a "best of" program. It's a dance party, all right.

Thu., May 17, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., May 18, 8 p.m.; Sat., May 19, 2 and 8 p.m., $20-$44, Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, 3680 Walnut St., 215-898-6701, www.annenbergcenter.org.
