Experimental

Like the home game of a particularly brutal house show, Technicolor Hell documents 11 examples of Philly's flowering — no, that's out of character; better make it festering — harsh electronics scene. The combination CD/zine, co-released by Badmaster Records and Dave Smolen's new-founded Malleable imprint, could be the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic dance party held in the factory from Eraserhead. But there's a staggering array of sounds here, from Smolen's cavernous, chiseled screeches (predictably a highlight) to Sharks With Wings' sonic blitzkrieg to Charles Cohen's Atari nervous breakdown to Tweeter's feedback thrash. All 11 will be on hand for the release show, and the intensity of the CD will only be exacerbated by the planned rapid-fire succession of sets ping-ponging from one end of the room to the other. Not for the faint of heart, or ears, or — well, to be on the safe side, best to make sure most of your extremities and major organs are impervious to aural assault.
