Only a cynic with a dance deficiency and a rusted Casio where their heart should be can resist Chromeo's charms. The Montreal-born duo consists of Dave 1 and Pee Thug, childhood friends who famously bridge the Jew/Arab divide. Together, they play an uncanny pastiche of all your favorite roller-skate jams: Rockwell? Cameo? Eddie Murphy? It's in there. With a couple of analog synthesizers they recreate '80s pop tropes like wailing (faux) guitar solos, echoing handclaps and jittery, tinny basslines. The whole package is so contrived that it should hurt if only the songs weren't so ridiculously, insidiously fun. Consider "Tenderoni," a funky, vocoder-inflected declaration of love, punctuated with computer blips and a smattering of tinkling percussion. The pair is on tour in support of their new album, Fancy Footwork (Vice) and they'll be playing at the Fillmore at the TLA with DJ crew Flosstradamus this week. Miss it and you may never know the white-gloved Zapp-lover lurking deep inside you.
Sat., July 7, 9 p.m., $15.50-$20.50, with Flosstradamus, Fillmore at the TLA, 334 South St., 215-922-1011, www.livenation.com.
