Wanna be electrified? Check out Nigerian Afro-beat star Femi Kuti, touring to plug his recently released best-of disc, The Definitive Collection. Son of Afro-beat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Femi's busy year — 20 shows in July alone — marks two important anniversaries: 10 years since his dad's AIDS-related death and 200 years since the U.K. abolished slavery, an issue he's been quite outspoken about. Credited for creating Afro-beat music — a fusion of jazz, soul and funk with African percussion — Femi's built upon the best of his dad's powerfully polyrhythmic sounds to create something dynamically his own.

Thu., July 12, 8 p.m., $30 and $40, World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400, www.worldcafelive.com.
