Buy Fresh Buy Local

If the conscious consumer in you just can't stomach the average corner deli greasesteak, head to the Buy Fresh Buy Local Week kickoff event, where they'll fill the grill with grass-fed organic beef, local onions, mushrooms and cheese and a seitan steak for vegetarians. (The "local" designation here refers to products grown and produced within a 150-mile radius of Philly.) Admission includes Steaz organic soda, Capogiro gelato and all-you-can-drink Yards; you can also purchase dunk tank balls to soak leaders from nonprofits like Food Trust and Farm City. Fairmount French Fling Bar Crawl
Thu., July 12, 7 p.m., $10

Is your Francais le rusty? Don't worry: The organizers of this pre-Bastille Day Fairmount pub crawl will provide you with the only phrases you need to know. Ten bucks gets you a tricolour pin and four pickup lines to test out, including "Un autre verre?" (Another drink?) for the shy and "Embrasse moi" (Kiss me) for the bold. Participating bars include Aspen, Bishop's Collar, Illuminaire, Jack's Firehouse, London Grill, Rembrandt's and St. Stephens Green; proceeds benefit Eastern State Penitentiary. Shady Brook Farm Cruise Night
Wed., July 18, 6 p.m., free

Cruise on out to Shady Brook next Wednesday to show off your wheels at the farm's car show. While this is a weekly event, July 18 will be all about the Corvette. Check out the rides while enjoying barbecue and food from the farm market, including deli sandwiches, roasted corn, fresh-picked fruit, homemade water ice and hand-dipped ice cream. The Royal Stumble
Sat., July 14, 1-5 p.m., $35

It's all-out war as 16 breweries compete to kick their kegs first at the eighth annual Nodding Head Royal Stumble beer fest. This year's theme is the Running of the Beers, although Nodding Head brewer Brendan Hartranft characterizes it as more of a "running out of the brews." The event' s currently sold out, but you may get lucky scouring Craigslist for tix. Nodding Head, 1516 Sansom St., 215-569-9525.

MANNAfest
Wed., July 18, 6-9 p.m., $15

MANNA holds monthly fundraisers for the 21-to-40 crowd to raise money to deliver meals to housebound and seriously ill individuals. This month's event will start with a guided tour of historic Philly and conclude with a happy hour (OK, two) at City Tavern. A donation gets you Rain vodka and Blue Coat gin martinis, Yuengling, Yards and an antipasto plate of smoked meats, cheeses, fruits and veggies. Reserve your spot by July 13. City Tavern, 138 S.
