Contrary to the image of a Johnny Ramone look-alike peddling goods out of his mom's garage, the Punk Rock Flea Market offers much more than leather jackets and Subhumans posters. The R5 Productions fundraiser will host 108 vendors, more than 2,500 expected bargain-hunting guests and plenty of distractions for the shopping-weary.
With everything from soy candles to screen-printed baby tees to on-site haircuts, local artists and crafters are taking over the Starlight Ballroom's revamped roller rink. Pick up chunky indie-meets-urban jewelry from Brookadelphia, color-saturated photographs by Sarah Parker and vintage mugshot belt buckles (pictured) by In Hope. A Nintendo Wii bowling tournament, vegan-friendly kitchen and bar full of PBR clearly separate the day from any boutique trunk sale.
The hosts will also unload some goods. R5 owner Sean Agnew is auctioning off two lifetime tickets and some 10-show passes to future R5 concerts. Or, for a buck, you can get a "frank appraisal of your looks." Which, we suppose, is pretty punk rock.
