We're all familiar with crappy tomatoes — pink, uniform in size, definitely not juicy. "That's not the tomato that God made," declares chef Joe Palombo of Cherry Hill's Mirabella Café. That's why he's teaming up with over 30 other South Jersey chefs for Farm to Fork Week. Participating restaurants will offer $30 four-course meals that highlight area ingredients. Palombo's menu will include pan-seared Jersey scallops with pickled chanterelle mushrooms and a lobster Cobb salad with sweet local corn and a smoked Jersey tomato vinaigrette. Later this month, Marigold Kitchen's Michael Solomonov will drop by NYC's prestigious James Beard House to prepare a five-course wine-paired dinner that runs $130. But for a cheaper, closer taste, head out to West Philly this week, where he'll offer the same menu for $60. Since Marigold's a BYO, bring along a bottle of Huber Gruner Veltliner Berg 2004 to go with the first course, butterfish carpaccio with kumquats and mint; or the Costillo De Monesma Crianza 2000 for the fourth, Canadian lobster and roasted ribeye with sour cherry. While we all know PA's Liquor Control Board, it'd be a stretch to say we love 'em. But, in what might be an attempt to get on our good side, they're offering free cocktail samples at state stores throughout the summer. This week's host is 1218 Chestnut, where the featured liquor is Sammy Hagar's own Cabo Wabo Tequila. Learn to make a Wabo Rita, get a deal on a bottle and munch on snacks from El Vez. Wine & Spirits, 1218 Chestnut St., 215-560-4380, www.lcb.state.pa.us.

Buy a plate to try food samples; the beer is free. It all takes place at the historic Shambles, the first public marketplace in Philadelphia, and is the ending celebration for Buy Fresh Buy Local week.
