The tri-state area isn't really lacking for artsy events, especially during the summer months when musicians and artists crowd the parks and outdoor venues to showcase their latest creations. But local community collaborative GeoClan is putting a twist on the standard show by using its annual festival, The Art Fix, to convey a message: Co-organizers Jude Graham and Maia Rosser mean to spread GeoClan's motto of promoting social and political change while nursing creativity.

"The Art Fix embraces the whole community of Philadelphia by the unique colors and sounds of all the artists, whether musically or visually," says Graham. "They cover all races and backgrounds personally though their art." Further proof of the diversity is in the bulky roster, which features musicians from several genres such as the bluesy Deb Callahan Band and the soul sounds of Philly's own U.City (formerly United Soul).

Visual stimulation is provided by painter and printmaker Patrick Grugan, whose work — including a portrait of a snarling Dick Cheney with flames shooting from his fingertips — encourages activism, specifically to end poverty. And Stacey "FlyJawn" Wilson, who is typically known for throwing bangin'-ass parties at Fluid, brings her acrylic pieces that use music as a blueprint.

"Philly is a city divided by crime and negative energy, and we at GeoClan want to bring positive energy through expression," says Graham. "I hope people leave inspired to discover themselves and discover the impact they can have in this world."
