Formed by French-Philadelphian guitarist/accordionist Alban Bailly, Inzinzac (named for a small town in France) plays Bailly's maddeningly complex Balkan-jazz compositions. With Shot x Shot saxophonist Dan Scofield, bassist Jon Barrios and Normal Love drummer Eli Litwin, the quartet sounds something like Albert Ayler and Dave Lombardo stumbling onto a gypsy caravan and jamming with the locals under the influence of a full moon. Bailly rehearsed the group for nearly a year before going public, and the discipline shows in the fact that the music is dervishly danceable while still chock-full of high-voltage improv. The show is presented under the auspices of Justin Berger's monthly Diaspora Series, and also features the somewhat more traditionally oriented Balkan sounds of the West Philadelphia Orchestra; and Austin-based Chris Black, a sometime collaborator with the Golden Arm Trio, whose solo act features dark, gypsy and Partch-inflected original folk tunes played on a tortured upright bass, banjo and loops.
