Grumblethorpe Historic House and Garden Farm Stand
Sat., Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., free

After-school activities are generally designed for two types of kids: artsy fartsies and future prom royalty. Thankfully, little green thumbs are now able to hone their down-and-dirty skills at the Grumblethorpe garden in Germantown. Support the mini-cultivators and other local farmers at this farm stand — tomatoes, peppers and herbs will be just a few of the items on offer. Grumblethorpe Historic House and Garden, 5267 Germantown Ave., 215-843-4820.

Zimbabwe Benefit
Sun., Sept. 16, 12:30-5:30 p.m., $10

In Zimbabwe, it costs only $100 to send a girl to a safe, legit school for a year. When Brown Betty Desserts Boutique owner Betty Makoni learned this, she teamed up with Center City's Remedy Tea Bar to organize a charity event for the Girl Child Network of Zimbabwe. For a mere $10, sweet-toothed philanthropists can munch on Godiva chocolate cheesecake, red velvet cupcakes and rice pudding and sip on pineapple papaya and tropical-flavored rooibos teas. Liberties Walk, 1030 N. Second St., 215-629-0999.

Delilah's Everyday Soul Workshop
Sat., Sept. 15, 1-3 p.m., $40

Sometimes it's OK to quit counting calories and experience the joy of comfort food. Philly's Delilah Winder, co-author of Delilah's Everyday Soul: Southern Cooking with Style (Running Press), will teach how to cook classics like her famous mac 'n' cheese and peach cobbler. Donovan McNabb is a devoted Delilah follower — proof that dietary hedonists can still look ripped. Kitchen Kapers, 1341 Nixon Drive, Moorestown, N.J., 856-778-7705.

Breweries of the Northern Liberties
Sat., Sept. 15, 2 p.m., free

Back in the pre-Prohibition days, there were more than 100 breweries in Philadelphia, most of them in NoLibs. Beer connoisseur Rich Wagner will deliver a PowerPoint presentation on the the brewery capital of the Old World. Don't worry, this isn't a dry history lesson: Samples of Yards' Philly Pale Ale, India Pale Ale and Saison will be available for your thirst-quenching pleasure. Yards Brewing Co., 2349 Amber St., 215-634-2600.

Impress for Less! Dinner
Thu., Sept. 20, 6 p.m., $150

QVC regular Hope Fox recently whipped up Impress for Less! (John Wiley & Sons), featuring recipes from restaurants in 10 major cities. Philly's one of 'em, and The Grill at the Ritz-Carlton made Fox's list. She and house chef Kevin Sbraga will recreate three featured dishes in an open-air kitchen: salmon with steamed mussels in Thai curry broth; crispy chicken with lemon, peaches, asparagus and mushroom; and pork chops with country dressing. Ritz-Carlton, 10 Avenue of the Arts, 215-523-8000.
