Nicole Mercurio had a knack for interior design and a fetish for fabrics. So when she ran out of room for her massive collection of silks and old-school polyesters a couple of months ago, the Philadelphia-based designer and crafter got to work on a line of throw pillows. "These were something I could do from my couch," she says. "I'm very good at sitting." Under the name Couch Design, Mercurio creates textured pillows in bold colors with appliqué and embroidery embellishments. Dark blue leaves swirl across the shimmering dupioni silk of Winter Storm, while a combination of vintage upholstery and damask lends Six Degrees a homey, ready-to-snuggle feel.
