Philly-based cartoonist Hans Rickheit's Chrome Fetus Comics present a world at once discomforting and alluring, sensual and threatening. Rickheit's characters — whether the trenchcoat-wearing man whose expressionless teddy-bear head masks his intentions, or the twins Cochlea and Eustachia, pubescent girls in short nighties who explore a seductively dangerous (or dangerously seductive) fantasy world — wander with Chris Ware deadpan through a world pitched somewhere in the vicinity of Burroughs, Kafka and Carroll. Puppet Uprising, always ready to employ a broad definition of its name to incorporate any kind of live object manipulation, will present Rickheit, displaying his work via a jerry-rigged overhead projector. While his depopulated urban streets and inexplicable museums suggest a discomforting David Lynch soundscape, the images will be accompanied by a live score from local improvisers Katt Hernandez on violin and Daniel Blacksberg, neither of whom should have any trouble conjuring the appropriate alien textures. The show will also feature shadow puppeteer Erik Ruin and a presentation of the Japanese picture theater Kamishibai.
