When the Woodhull Freedom Foundation set out to explore the complications and fundamentals of sexual freedom, they didn't stop at sexuality and gender. Instead, the D.C.-based nonprofit built their movement on fighting the political, social and economic forces surrounding sexual repression. Along with other activists from community and national organizations, the WFF will host Sexual Freedom Day, an all-day forum exploring the concept of sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.
The panel will consist of several activists including Ignacio Gilberto Rivera (Queers for Economic Justice), Rebecca Fox (National Coalition for LGBT Health) and Loretta Ross (SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective). Representing their respective organizations, the speakers will conduct an interactive discussion that dives into their personal experience and explores how to create change. "Participants will gain an understanding of the broad issue of sexual freedom and how critical that particular human right is to many of the other issues in our country today," says WFF executive director Ricci Levy (pictured). "From the reproductive choice to comprehensive sexuality education, to even the ability to engage in various forms of sexual expression between consenting adults."
Following the forum is Liberty, Libations & Libido, a fundraiser to benefit WFF and the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund, an LGBTQ health and social service resource organization. Music will be provided by DJ Johanna Constantine; Philly's fave neo-burlesque troupe, Peek-A-Boo Revue, will shake it in pasties. Now that sounds pretty free.
