Breathing life into words from a page is what acting is all about, and Douglas C. Wager's In Conflict — a stage adaptation of former Philadelphia Daily News scribe Yvonne Latty's book containing 25 American soldiers' firsthand accounts of the Iraq war — should prove an exciting challenge for Temple University's student actors.

To get a better grasp of the soldiers' hardships, the students spoke directly with the veterans they will portray, as well as military advisors. The production plunges us into the war not only though the soldiers' stories, but through video by Temple's chair of film and media arts, Warren Bass, assisted by MFA film candidate Gary Yong. This world premiere deals not with the war's politics, but with soldiers' views on duty, loss and the fight to stay alive. Witness their experiences and draw your own conclusions. Following the Oct. 13 show, the vets will participate in a roundtable discussion on Iraq.
