You might not expect to catch a good photography exhibition at a place named for drawing (the Philadelphia Sketch Club) juried by a graduate faculty member of a school not known for teaching or showing the medium (the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts), but you'd be remiss to judge the Sketch Club's annual show, "PHOTOgraphy 2007," by name alone. Despite its moniker, the club boasts a long history of notable members who were into the camera as well as the brush and pencil, including Thomas Eakins and George B. Wood. Combing through this year's entries by club members and other Philly shooters is Kate Moran, a PAFA instructor and a Leeway Foundation and Pew Fellowship winner in photography. Tucked away in the club's cozy digs on Camac Street, the annual show is a gem of a fall exhibition, and Sketch Club HQ is always worth the visit, even to see the house in which it resides.
Opening reception Sun., Oct. 14, 2-5 p.m., exhibit runs through Oct. 28, Philadelphia Sketch Club, 235 S. Camac St., 215-545-9298, www.sketchclub.org.
