Haunted Fun for Everyone

Published: Oct 24, 2007

Epitaph: An Intimate Séance

Fri.-Sat., Oct. 26-27, 8, 9:30 and 11 p.m., $38-$40, Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine St., 215-922-3456

Sam Fleisher died more than 60 years ago, but you still may be able to glom a few sketching tips from the Philadelphia artist. In 1898, Fleisher opened the first tuition-free art school, which he reportedly still hangs around. Matthew "Matt the Knife" Cassiere will contact his spirit in the spooky sanctuary of the Fleisher Art Memorial. Cassiere, a magician when not summoning dead artists, holds 11 Guinness World Records including fastest escape from handcuffs.

Haunted Whore Ride

Wed., Oct. 31, 8 a.m., $10, Club Risqué, 1700 S. Columbus Blvd., 215-463-6900

Just when you thought the sexy witches couldn't get any sexier, the Risqué girls joined the costume party. Preston and Steve host this annual hayride down Delaware Avenue, during which the scantily clad ladies seduce drivers and bring traffic to a halt. Ten bucks will get you a ride on the wagon, but rubbernecking is free. Trick? Treat? Same difference.

Dead Men Do Tell Tales

Sat., Nov. 10, 6-9 p.m., $50, Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave., 215-228-8200

It shouldn't come as surprise that the residents of Laurel Hill know a thing or two about haunting. South Jersey Ghost Research — real-life ghost busters who help individuals and institutions deal with ghoulish activity — disclose the findings of two recent investigations at the cemetery. Here's hoping for proton packs.

Horrorfest

Thu., Oct. 25 and Sun., Oct. 28, 7-9 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., Oct. 26-27, 7-10 p.m., $10-$40, Shady Brook Farm, 931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley, 215-968-1670

Shady Brook Farm transforms into an old-school Halloween party complete with a haunted barn, hayride and "Scare-e-okee." The place does, however, have plenty of Elm Street cred: Col. William "The Reaper" Reapord tortured and murdered mentally ill Civil War veterans on the property, and legend has it that the ghosts of his victims still inhabit the woods around the farm.
