There are those who keep talking about what we can do to help Philadelphia youth. Then there are those who are actually doing something. Poet and artist Sannii Crespina-Flores falls into the latter category. The director and founder of this Saturday's Un-Inhibited Muse — an all-day festival showcasing the photography, film, music and dance of local artists (including several young'uns) — Crespina-Flores strives to provide adults and kids alike with the opportunity for expression.
"The Un-Inhibited Muse began as a festival for independent short films, but soon became a festival simply to celebrate the artistry of Philadelphia residents," she says. "It serves to give voice to the ideas, passion and compassion of the artists in this city."
In addition to a screening of Crespina-Flores' own film titled Conversations With My Conscience, work will be shown by a plethora of visual artists such as John L. Delancey, Leon Finney (transferring paintings to film), and high school students RaeShelle Drayton and Milan Flore (Crespina-Flores' youngest son). Sounds will be provided courtesy of singer Sabrina Cuie, MC Verso and 16-year-old DJ Lean Wit It (aka Crespina-Flores' oldest son).
It's all in the name of bringing performers and their community together. Adds Crespina-Flores, "Regarding soul-satisfying, there is a connection between the Philadelphia audience and its artist — things in common, things shared and things newly discovered within this city."
