When Weedeater singer "Dixie" Dave Collins opens his mouth, it sounds like Swamp Thing blowing chunks of bong water and whiskey all over the North Carolina bayou. Which is exactly the kind of guttural screeching you need to tear through Weedeater's fuzzed-out, tuned-down sludge on their latest God Luck and Good Speed (Southern Lord). The Steve Albini-produced LP sounds thicker than molasses, with huge drum sounds morphing the trio into a one-way mud train to Satantown. "Wizard Fight" achieves Jock Jams hype for Harry Potheads and recovering dungeonmasters, while the cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Back My Bullets" is homage to Weedeater's Southern rock roots.
