In The Event That...

You Pity the Fool

For his Comedy Central-produced My Secret Public Journal tour, Mike Birbiglia bought himself a van. But not just any van. The 29-year-old comic painted it black with a red stripe on the side in a tribute to the A-Team's vehicle. "I'm probably most like B.A." he says, "because I'm afraid of flying and I wear gold chains and feathers."

City Paper: Do you have a GPS to help you get around?

Mike Birbiglia: I do, and it's very helpful. But the thing that's funny about the GPS is that it doesn't know about solid objects, so it'll direct you into walls and things, like, "Turn left." But I don't want to turn left, there's a building!

CP: So do you get in a lot of accidents?

MB: I've had too many accidents to even bring up. Maybe that could be the subject of my next show — "Accidents and Breakdowns."

CP: Hopefully nothing will happen to keep you from Philly.

MB: Yeah, Philly is actually a very special stop on the tour because it's the first and maybe only secret show I'm doing. I decided to do a few shows that were only known to my mailing list without doing much publicity, and I got the most requests for Philly.
