Culinary Mysteries Solved

Published: Dec 18, 2007

Q: My boss has given me the task of locating a Philadelphia restaurant that can accommodate a party of 30 for lunch, at no more than $30 per person.

A. Feeding the whole crew won't be a challenge for a number of local restaurants that cater to large groups. For an interactive experience, dip into some fondue at the Melting Pot (1219 Filbert St., 215-922-7002). Give them a week's notice and they'll specially open the restaurant at lunchtime for your group. Bistro Romano (120 Lombard St., 215-925-8880), a converted granary that serves classic Italian fare, can accommodate your party as long as you give them a heads up. For a true power lunch, try Twenty21's (2005 Market St., 215-851-6262) traditional American fare, beautiful bar and award-winning wine list. If across-the-board accessible grub and a cocktail or four are on your mind, set up something at the Marathon Grill location at 16th and Sansom (215-569-3278). Regardless of where you decide to go, the key here is calling ahead and working out the kinks with an event planner — and we don't mean five minutes before you pull up the curb. Do that and it's straight to Applebee's for you.
