Back in '69, Richie Havens made history by opening Woodstock with a set that went on for hours with countless ovations. "Nobody else was ready to play so I just kept on going," the 66-year-old Havens recalls. He's kept on going ever since, securing a now-multigenerational audience with his warm stage presence, soulful vocals and complete lack of artifice. Everything from romance to political unrest has found its way into his sometimes fiery, always poignant music, which will be fleshed out for his Philly gig by guitarist Walter Parks and cellist Stephanie Winter.
