When last seen on the Kimmel Center main stage in early February 2006, Paco Peña Flamenco Ensemble nearly caused a fire emergency. OK, not really, but by the conclusion of the show, things got so fiery it qualified as downright incendiary. Peña's ensemble specializes in passion personified. And not simply of the kind between a man and a woman although this being flamenco, there was some of that but for human emotion as expressed via hyper-rhythmic dance and music. Peña is a master guitarist, but with this outfit, save for a solo selection or two, he goes for true group effort. The general gist of the proceedings is that things start off at a nice, measured pace, then slowly but surely the dancers, singers and musicians gamely urge one another on and engage in ever more complex rhythms. By the end, the action gets dramatic and delightfully fervid.
Sun., Jan. 27, 3 p.m., $34-$65, Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999, kimmelcenter.org.
