Ärtsoppa and Punsch Supper
Sat., Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m., $25

The folks at the American Swedish Historical Museum love split pea soup (ärtsoppa) so much that they formed the Men's Split Pea Soup Committee, specifically created to hand-make the stuff. Get in the Scandinavian mood with a tour of the museum during cocktail hour. Punsch, a sweet, warm drink of arrack and vodka, will be served; mild Prästost ("priest cheese") and unleavened krispbread are your dinner accompaniments. Accordion music will waft about for your entertainment. Need more? Dessert is gingerbread cake with lingonberry cream. American Swedish History Museum, 900 Pattison Ave., 215-389-1776, americanswedish.org.

Photo Society of Philadelphia's Final Friday Hanging
Fri., Jan. 25, 6-8 p.m., free

The oldest organization of its kind in America, the Photo Society of Philadelphia was founded as a resource for photographers to develop new chemistry and printing methods. Likewise, Joe Coffee Bar was the first shop in the city to offer fair-trade and shade-grown coffee. Check out the Final Friday photo hanging and absorb the good karma, and/or go for Joe's Liquid Nirvana or Aztec Hot Chocolate — rich, dark drinks made from fair-trade chocolate and raw sugar. You'll feel good about attending either way. Joe Coffee Bar, 1100 Walnut St., 215-592-7384, joecoffeebar.com.

Pop Shop Comfort Food Cooking Class
Wed., Jan. 30, 7 p.m., $15

Daniel Fleischmann, previously of Le Bec-Fin, is all about nostalgia these days. The GM of the Pop Shop, Collingswood's ultra-adorable soda fountain, is ready to teach a comfort foods cooking class. Participants will learn about three of the Pop Shop's amazing grilled cheeses (like the Calvert, with Jack cheese, roasted turkey, bacon and avocado on focaccia); lobster mac and cheese; the best way to prepare winter veggies; and a bread pudding how-to. Cost includes instruction, generous samples and take-home recipes that'll help you re-create the warming dishes straight through to spring. Whole Foods Market, 940 Route 73 North, Marlton, N.J., 856-797-1115, thepopshopusa.com.

Belgium Comes to West Chester
Sat., Jan. 26, 4 p.m., $40 plus tax and tip

Brewers from each of Iron Hill's six locations will bring some of their favorite Belgians to this annual event. Fast for the three-course beer-paired dinner.
