The Great Holtzie
Sat., Feb. 9, 3 p.m., $10, Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St., 215-496-9001, heliumcomedy.com
Clowns are creepy, puppet shows are everywhere and most balloon twisters can only make mutant giraffes. Fortunately, standup comedy has arrived in the world of children's entertainment. Local G-rated comic The Great Holtzie will host an afternoon at Helium Comedy Club for savvy little ones who don't appreciate a rainbow wig and oversize feet.
But just because he's kid-friendly doesn't mean big people will find Holtzie (aka Adam Holtz) unbearable. Like Shrek, the comedian has a humor parents can appreciate, describing himself as the "anti-Mister Rogers." "My act is a combo of prop comedy, Steve Martin and Don Rickles, for the 3-to-10 demographic," he says. A beautiful day in the neighborhood, indeed.
