Just Opened

Store 1026

Published: Feb 6, 2008

Open Fri., 6-10 p.m., and Sat., 2-8 p.m., 1026 Arch St., second floor, 215-574-7630, store1026.myshopify.com, space1026.com

Don't let its size fool you — Space 1026's new retail nook has plenty to offer. Located in the back of a small computer room and nestled between a gallery and a screen-printing studio, Store 1026 is packed with treasures created by members of the Chinatown-based artist collective. Among the work crowded on rope-bridge shelves are graphic prints by Alex Lucas and Bill McRight; threads by Crystal Stokowski and Andrew Jeffrey Wright; goods from independent publisher Free News Projects; and zines inspired by past exhibits.

In addition to supporting its artists, Store 1026 will help raise funds to maintain or eventually purchase the building it inhabits — which won't be easy. "Buying and being able to support the building would be a dream come true," says member and store co-founder Aryon Hoselton. "But I think now we are hoping for an investor who supports the arts community and will allow us to keep on keeping on."
