What Makes You So Special:

A sweaty hour of intense exercise, Death Electric Emo Protest (DEEP) aerobics is meant to unite the delight of exercise with the torment of living in a war-mongering, unjust society. In other words, it's the cardio class Morrissey would take if he weren't busy crying all the time. "I was inspired to make DEEP aerobics last summer when I was preparing for a hard piece," says Brooklyn-based dancer and musician Miguel Gutierrez. "I started doing aerobics in my warm-up and wondered why I couldn't just let aerobics be as ridiculous as it actually is and why it couldn't be politically charged. You get to make a costume for it, which is a good enough reason to do anything."
