Do the flowers, of course, but if a fat chunk of jewelry is not in the budget this year, give the gift of music to your sweetie for Valentine's Day. Here are two suggestions: Philomel Valentine Salons begin a light buffet of hors d'oeuvres and aperitifs, wines and chocolates. Then comes a selection of Baroque bon-bons from Telemann, Geminiani, Galuppi and Vivaldi from this fine period instrument ensemble, with guest artist Virginia Brewer, an internationally acclaimed Baroque oboist. Then back to food and drink, then back to music. It is a most civilized and lovely way to wile away an evening. Your date will be impressed.

Dolce Suono, an ensemble founded by and based around flutist Mimi Stillman, offers yet another selection of songs of love a few days later. Stillman will be joined by a regular Dolce Suono colleague, guitarist Allen Krantz. Krantz brings some of his own music, as well as arrangements he has made of music by Mozart (The Magic Flute), Schubert, Brahms, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Satie and Bernstein (West Side Story, natch). Philly composer Daniel Dorff will also have a number. This one's free, so maybe spring for a nice dinner, too, cheapskate. Yeah, I'm talking to you.
