"It's not about trying to create the most popular party — that's only part of it," says DJ Panek. "It's more about creating a party that focuses on quality music and understanding our role as DJs to bring new music to people." Panek, along with fellow DJs Statik, Phillee Blunt, Skipmode and Lil Dave (aka Ill Vibe Collective), will celebrate seven years of rockin' bodies at the Bodyrock party. A few special guests will be in the house, notably Ill Vibe friend and mentor King Britt. "We felt it was important to celebrate the long life of Bodyrock with someone who has played an integral role in Philadelphia's long DJ and nightlife history," says Statik. Expect Britt to keep it in full Bodyrock spirit with a mix of old and new hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul tracks. (If you like what you hear, there will be a chance to win Britt's box set with a raffle benefiting the local Public Citizens for Children and Youth.) In addition, visual artist Sen ONE will be trooping down from Brooklyn to give a live exhibition of his graffiti-inspired painting style.
Fri., Feb. 29, 10 p.m., $10, with Ill Vibe Collective, King Britt and Sen ONE, M Room, 15 W. Girard Ave., 215-739-5577, illvibe.net.
