The CP Beeramid

You have the power to decide which local beer is the best.

Published: Feb 27, 2008

Who's the real winner between Victory and Triumph? Dogfish or Nodding — which Head is superior? Does Appalachian Brewing Co. have the Cinderella chutzpah to topple the mighty Yuengling?

Help answer these searing questions by voting in the CP Beer Week Beeramid. Yes, we're sure you've already seen your fair share of wacky, non-b-ball brackets by now — but this here's different.

The Beeramid will settle which local beer reigns supreme over its peers. It's our little way of celebrating what just might be the best beer town in the nation.

The competitors:

Yuengling | Appalachian Brewing Company | Troegs | Sly Fox | Iron Hill | Flying Fish | Weyerbacher | Yards | Legacy | Stoudt's | Dock Street | Victory | Triumph | Dogfish Head | Nodding Head

The scheduling breakdown:

THE SLOSHED 16: Online voting begins Thu., Feb. 28; ends at midnight Mon., March 3

THE 8 PACK: Online voting begins Tue., March 4; ends at noon Fri., March 7 (the first day of Philly Beer Week)

THE FOAMY 4: Online voting begins at 4 p.m. Fri., March 7; ends at midnight Mon., March 10

We'll announce the final two competitors in our March 13 issue. From there, online voting will run through Mon., March 17. We'll name the ultimate victor in the March 20 issue.

Victory Brewing is the best microbrewery in the region.

By far and away, Victory Brewing Company is tops in quality, flavor and taste. I have moved to California in 2004 and still can't find a better IPA than Hopdevil or Barleywine than Old Horizontal

Victory is brewed with consistency and has great varietal options. Without a doubt, my number one. If victory burnt down, I'd go to Dogfish Head as my second choice.

How is it possible that manayunk pulled ahead of the troegenator that fast late last night? I call bs on this one, no limit on the amount of times an IP address can vote. I watched the votes for the punch jump well over 300 votes between 8:30 and 9 last night. In fact I voted around 9 and between the time I looked at the bracket and put my vote in the punch recieved 35 votes! Im all for the support of local breweries but somthing smells fishy about this win. A gimmick beer beating a GABF gold medal winner.

After nearly giving up on domestic brew I discovered Flying Fish some years back at a music festival at Cooper River in South Jersey. So its no surprise that the Fish would be in the semifinals. Their Belgian Abbey Dubbel is an extremely drinkable robust brew with a clean and pleasent after taste, certainly one of my favorites. Flying Fish and the beer renaisssance now occuring in
the Philadelphia area has restored my faith in beer and mankind
