South Jersey Restaurant Week

Sun.-Thu., March 9-14, $35 per person plus tax and tip

Four courses for $35 is the M.O. for South Jersey Restaurant Week — but you can find stellar deals if you look hard enough. Take La Esperanza's (40 E. Gibbsboro Road, Lindenwold, 856-782-7114) first course, a combination of three appetizers: guacamole, molletes (Mexican-style bread) and a tilapia ceviche. Elements Café (517 Station Ave., Haddon Heights, 856-546-8840) is offering extra food for an extra day: Its five-course tapas menu is available through March 15. Try the sweet long pepper stuffed with braised short rib. And don't miss the choices at Joe Palombo's Mirabella Café (pictured; 210 Route 70 East, Cherry Hill, 856-354-1888), where they're serving Jersey monkfish piccata and a platter of homegrown veggies. A Tribute to Michael Jackson
Fri., March 14, 7-9 p.m., $85-$95 per person

This event will honor legendary beer writer Michael Jackson, who passed away last year, while doubling as a benefit for The Parkinson's Foundation. Dogfish Head has brewed a batch of the ancient Aztec chocolate-infused beer Theobroma, while Nodding Head has designed a beer called Chiswick in honor of the location of Jackson's favorite London pub. Notable brewmasters, including Fritz Maytag of Anchor Steam, will take the podium for speeches. Reservations required. University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3260 South St., 215-898-3900, museum.upenn.edu.

The Fourth Annual Brewer's Plate
Sun., March 9, 6-9 p.m., $50-$100

Twenty-one chefs are teaming with 21 brewers to prepare this beer dinner event. David Ansill's pig's head terrine is designed to match up with Legacy's Euphoria, a Belgian-style Golden Ale. Philadelphia Brewing Co. will give attendees a sneak peek of its Rowhouse Red, a mellow ale that Southwark is using in its cured ham and pickled egg salad. VIP tickets cost a cool hundred, but the bump-up gets you into "Beer 101" with Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver and local sommelier Marnie Old. The class will feature cheeses from Di Bruno Bros., Victory Brewing Co. beers and tasting pointers from two of the industry's finest. Reservations required. Independence Visitor Center, 1 N. Independence Mall West, 215-386-5211 ext. 103, thebrewersplate.org.
