Our first (annual?) City Paper vs. Y-Rock Shootout has been a mad rush so far. The polls were open for only five days, and the bands didn't even know about the competition until they were in it, and yet, the turnout has been strong in round one. Several acts accumulated clicks by the hundreds. Perennial favorites Beretta 76 and young upstarts Jotto both made strong showings, but when all the votes were tallied (with statistical tabulating provided by our old DielboldBot 1000), we arrived at our winners ...
We are huuuge Zolof fans here at CP, so we're pretty excited to send them into battle in this the second and final round of the Shootout against our Web-radio nemeses.
So, this is a call to action. Go now to citypaper.net/shootout and cast your vote. The polls close at midnight on Monday.
What's on the line? The winner of this head-to-head matchup will be invited to play a couple of festivals — this summer's Association of Alternative Newsweeklies Convention and a Y-Rock jawn to be determined later.
But it's not only the bands who have something on the line.
If Dr. Dog wins it for Y-Rock, we have to turn over a page of our music section in a future issue to those bastards. They'll probably use it up begging for donations! Please make sure that doesn't happen!
If Zolof wins, City Paper will take over the non-virtual airwaves of Y-rock on WXPN for an hour. Why, that's just enough time to play every Zolof song (or one Dr. Dog live track).
