• GROSS MCCLEAF GALLERY , 127 S. 16th St., 215-665-8138. TEXTILE CONSTRUCTIONS AND NEW FABRIC WORKS, Features textile work by Philadelphia native Emily Richardson and Judith James. Richardson's fabrics are organized using bold colors and transparencies in layers so that the pieces resemble paintings. James uses Japanese shibori patterned cloths, African adire textiles, screenprinting, relief printing and dyeing methods to manipulate the fabric. Runs through April 15.

STEVIE AND THE 3 SISTERS AND NEW CERAMICS WORKS, Features ceramic work by Michael Seeber and photographs, portraits and drawings by Steve Iwanczuk. Seeber's pieces include carved, low-relief ceramics which are decorated with glazed finishes, mosaics and simple pencil drawings. Iwanczuk has dedicated his work to the theme of the muse, exploring the relationship between the artist and his or her inspiration. Runs through March 30.

Hawkins uses familiar media figures joined by stray animals in front of Philadelphia landmarks so that the viewer interprets the entire composition as a narrative. Mogck works with symbolic Norse and medieval images in simplistic graffiti style using earthtones. Runs through April 12.

The second installment in this series, Shiedel's video is shown on a television rested on its side. It chronicles the experiences of a character who has totally lost bodily control and falls or flies through everyday landscapes. Runs through March 30. TRANSMITTING IDEOLOGY, Features installation work by Ricardo Miranda Zuniga of 20 carved wooden guns bound to radios playing broadcasts of various historical speeches on freedom and societal reform. The exhibit critiques the power that the mass media has in crafting consciousness. Runs through March 30. IN ORDER NOT TO BE HERE, Features a film by Deborah Stratman shot at night to dissect the various fears we have as a society and how privacy, convenience, the need for safety and surveillance determine the choices we make. Runs through March 30.
