It's hard to imagine a Smak-less existence, but the pinkest boutique in Old City has been around for only three years. Help them celebrate with a birthday bash as fresh and unapologetically girly as their storefront. Party favors include pink bubbly, matching cupcakes and gifts with any purchase. Additionally, you'll score 20 percent off any one item. Having trouble deciding? We covet the new satin halters (pictured), and proud Smak mamas Abby Kessler and Katie Loftus suggest what they've dubbed the "Barbie dress," a little vintage-inspired, black-and-white-striped number.
Liberties Walk is welcoming spring with our favorite kind of block party — the kind with shopping. Central to the day will be a fashion show featuring a new line of alternative bridal wear by Delicious Boutique. "We're creating a new interpretation of a modern bride with unexpected lengths, colors and fabrics," says designer and co-owner Psydde Delicious. The collection includes full-length corset gowns with trains, corseted tops with full underskirts and some pieces for daring grooms, as well. Other must-dos: Say goodbye to Art Star (it's their last day before the big move to Second Street) and get 10 percent off any one treat at Little Candy Shoppe.
Jamie Campbell is one resourceful designer. The local artist and musician creates what she calls "trash-fashion" with found materials such as bike inner tubes, circuit boards, cassettes and almost anything else she comes across. Motivated by an interest in sustainable materials as well as primitive art, Campbell maintains that no medium is too unusual or ambitious. "I can't make a whole dress out of Christmas lights," she confesses. "But I tried." You can catch her latest designs at Art at the End of the World, a night of fashion, film and live music by Seizure 17 (in which Campbell plays bass) and Justin Duerr. Models for the evening include Campbell's 8-year-old daughter, Zoe, as well as a cast of friends who don't mind getting draped in bubble wrap.
London Grill, how did you know about our pancake-and-new-sundress weekend fantasy? Starting this Saturday, the Fairmount restaurant is adding clothing, accessory and bath-and-body vendors to the brunch menu. The kick-off event includes jewelry by Sharon Higgins and scarves and bags by Harshita Designs. The munchies are equally impressive, but we're especially interested in this baked crème brülée French toast. Cue a groggy Patrick Dempsey with our perfectly sugared coffee.
